How It Works

Selective Forest Stewardship
+ Our crews apply ancient principles from the Sakuteiki, alongside modern silvicultural science, to thin, prune, and restore mixed-species forests.
+ Ladder fuels are removed, ponderosa and sugar pines are managed, and native oaks, madrones, and incense cedars are preserved for resilience and biodiversity.Biomass Transformation

Born of Korean heritage and rooted in the Sierra Nevada wilderness, John Jimin bridges ancient Eastern aesthetics with the living forest of the American West. His journey began not with a chainsaw, but with an ancient text — Sakuteiki, Japan’s oldest treatise on garden-making — encountered during his studies of Japanese environments and literature at the University of Southern California. That early encounter with the spiritual geometry of stones and trees would later guide him away from city life toward a deeper vocation: restoring balance to the land through sacred craft.Today, as an ISA Certified Arborist® and founder of Sakunamu, John practices a form of forestcraft that unites ecology, theology, and art. His work integrates wildfire mitigation, ecological restoration, and native soil renewal with a contemplative philosophy drawn from his Korean and Orthodox Christian roots — a way of seeing the forest not as mere resource, but as beautified revelation.Each project, from pruning an old oak to balancing the watershed, carries the same quiet intention: to return what has fallen into entropy back to its origin.Certifications + Education
